V8 hood on 200; wheel arch fender rolling...
Hi!
The non-quattro cars have flat-side fenders at the rear and front
wheel arches. The V8 and quattro cars look, in my opinion, more
aggressive and attractive with the wheel arches rolled or flared
around the arches. Also, I'd love to have a V8 someday, but in this
country (South Africa) it will never come to reality. Heck, finding
a 200q is impossible, only quattros officially offered by Audi SA are
the new A-cars from 1998 onwards and the S-cars and some quattro
coupes, all on special import basis. The hood and lights on the V8
are very attractive. It would be nice to have them on the 200, and
would probably stand out much more here in South Africa as the car
would definitely be many times different from anything on the roads.
I therefore have the following questions:
Hood replacement:
1. can the type-44 V8 quattro hood and lights simply bolt
directly onto the 200 or was there some engineering in
fitment between the 200 and the V8 type-44?
2. the hood of the V8 looks like the hood of the early
post-44 100/200 (the first A6 shaped cars, what was the
code for them?), are they the same thing? In other words,
can I take the hood of a post-44 100/200 and bolt it onto
the 1989 200t I have?
3. would the hood fit perfectly between the 200 and the V8 or
will there be a gap between the hood and the lights due to
nose slant angle? Will the bumper need to be changed? It
doesn't look like it from the pictures I've seen?
Fender flaring/rolling:
1. how do folks on the list go about putting the flares on the
arch edges?
2. what sort of work is involved? Can I do it without having
to buy the V8 arches for the front? I was thinking I could
find some 2nd hand panels and have them flared out, then keep
the original just in case I want to turn the car back to
original.
3. the front panels I know can be replaced with the V8 panels,
but the rear panels can't and the only way is to flare
them permanently. I also see that the flaring goes beyond
the line of the plastic trim and seems as if the rear
bumper accounts for the bit of flaring below the upper arch
line on the V8 pictures I've seen. Will I need to replace the
rear bumper with the V8 bumper in order to maintain the
flaring like? Again, these look very similar to the early
post-44 cars, but I guess the bumpers are not interchangable.
4. On the front arches the same as above is observed. To
maintain the flare line on the front arches will I need
to replace the front bumper with the V8 one and also
replace the small Audi logo carrying plastic trim just behind
the arch? The trim on the 200 runs all the way up to the
arch line.
5. In keeping with the flaring of the V8, will the rear
doors need some small bending at the edges where they
meet the arch?
TIA. I'd really like to hear from some people who have had this done
or have done it themselves. I'm just looking to do some future work
on the car, everything goes into the upgrade list for when money
starts coming in. :)
Oh yes, I already have the V8 taillights, it was standard on the
South African 200.
