RE: V8Q surging
I too was experiencing this "stepping" through the revs when accelerating in
gears 1 and 2. I replaced the O2 sensor which reduced the problem
significantly, but the ultimate solution was to change the octane and brand
of gasoline I was using. There is a small paragraph in the owners manual
that strongly recommends avoiding gasoline that contains alcohol
(oxygenated). The only brand I am positive that isn't oxygenated is Texaco.
Since I've been buying their 92 octane, the surging has ceased.
The service tech at the dealer said that the surging or stepping is actually
the ignition timing being retarded to stop pinging related to lower octane
fuels. Hope this helps!
