Re: Wilwoods Vs G60s for 4KQ

Can you tell that I'm considering this one if the questions come back
with the right answers?  <grin>

I suppose that kinda depends on how you define "kludge." I have spoken
with Todd Candey and he has the the brackets with new mounting hardware
for ~$60 (don't quote me on that price).

I guess I'm looking at it this way; this is what it would take to do a
G60 conversion:

* G60 calipers -- ~$150/pair in decent condition
* mounting brackets -- ~$60
* 11" rotors -- $150
* brake pads -- $90
* stainless brake lines -- $90

These prices are based on what I've seen, or what I have personally paid
for some of the components. This totals a G60 conversion to _my_
specifications out at $540. So I guess it comes down to whether or not
the Wilwood package from RPI is worth another $255.

I do see one aspect where the Wilwoods have an advantage; in the price
of performance brake pads. In a couple of the catalogs that I was
browsing last night, I saw prices for full on _race_ pads for these
calipers for less than $50. I know for a fact that the preferred pads
for the G60's (KVR, Porterfield) are easily more than $100/pair, and can
climb to over $200/set (Pagid).

A little more info on this note. I did manage to find a web page that
lists the info for the Wilwood Dynalite II calipers at
<http://www.magnumforceracing.com/wilwood_dynalite_calipers.htm>.  The
thumbnail picture for the Dynalite II caliper is missing, but if you
click on it, the full size picture loads just fine.

I'll call RPI about noon PDT, and I will post a report with details
later this afternoon.
