RE: Power Potential 5000csq/90q?
Screw contemplating just do it.:-)
As for your question it really depends on what you want to do with this car.
The 5ktq is an impressive car but very large. Not exactly a lightweight track
car. It does go fast even in stock form and is a slippery body that is nice
and quiet at highway speeds and above. Body is solid and handling in stock is
wallowy but still capable. Brakes are underpowered for track use but fine for
slightly spirited road driving. For a touring car it is second to none IMO.
Plenty of room, lots of mods, SMOOOTH, good mileage, lotsa accoutrements, and
much more luxury.
As for the 90q. Nice solid chassis. Even though it is not substantially
lighter than the 5ktq it feels lighter. Not as smooth and probably a slightly
better handling car in stock form. Not as slippery but not bad. Much smaller
feel inside and out. Not as many luxury features but close. Brakes are
decent but not great track brakes but good enough for spirited street driving.
Interior is excellent looking and exterior is nice but not as revolutionary
as the 5ktq. The N/A motor however is not much on power. You would really
need to spend some money on it to get any power. Even then the most you could
expect is 170-190 hp. A turbo bolt on is not an option as far as I know and
probably not going to give much more than 200hp even then. To swap in an MC
you would need to spend between 3 and 4 thousand and a lot of labor. There
are not many mc conversions into 90's yet. I am sure it is possible but would
be very much a custom job. To summarize the 90. Good handling, nice body,
decent brakes for the street, decent touring car, nice interior, and newer
design.
So now that I have made your decision even harder I hope you go out and buy
the **%()(Q. It must be that Microsoft software.

I am still contemplating the purchase of an Audi Quattro, since I am a firm
believer in awd (per my earlier post and my 88 Celica All-Trac) and I have
a dilemma. I am torn between a 5000csq (Mike DelTegro - you still have
yours forsale??) and an 88 90q. How tunable is the 10v in the 90's??
Anyone have the max hp est? Is it better to install a turbo MC motor or
just add an after-market turbo to the 90q? I like the 90q, but I also like
the tunability of the MC motors?? Any thought/suggestions appreciated.
