Door lock--what did I break?

Stopped at the local boatyard on the way home from work today.  Put the
key in driver's door to lock it, turned key as usual and heard something
snap. Now when you
put the key in it turns freely in either direction, power locks do not
operate, alarm sometimes arms.

Everything works perfectly well using the key from the passenger door
including the powe rdoor locks.

What did I break, how much $$$ it is going to cost, how complicated is it
going to be to fix?
