Hi Bill;
These cars have a common problem with original door lock cylinders. The
boss which connects the arm to the lock cylinder snaps and you get the
symptoms you describe. Audi has an upgraded part available for about $30.
You can use the tumblers from your existing lock so you don't have to change
keys.
This is the most likely cause of your problem. The replacement is
discussed in the archives.
