My '77 Rabbit had a fan that would often kick in for a few
seconds after the car had been shut off. Early Rabbits had a
slight problem (recall item) in that water would enter the interior
compartment via the radio antenna cable and drip off the cable
at its lowest point which happened to be right over the fuse
box. This resulted in mud and corrosion building up in the
fuse box, sometimes causing interesting situations where
current from the fan circuit would jump into the ignition
circuit. If the pistons had come to rest in just the right
position, the resulting spark could cause the engine to
start itself. There were a few reports of Rabbits driving
around parking lots on their own.
