Phil, I'm not sure we're talking about the same procedure here. The
impression I got (for no particular reason) is that the upper half of the
steering column has not been out (in which case you would need the Vise
grips and shear bolt).
I'm thinking that someone has been working on the lower end - R&R rack,
etc. - the shear bolt was never removed. If (big if) this is indeed the
case, then I stand (on my head, as it were) by my previous procedure.

P.S. I see that DoubleDz has discovered a shade of nail polish that matches
her pearlescent A-6! Phil, we HAVE to have the part number and microfiche
for that!!!!!! Oh, lord, what we have been missing!!! (Go git 'em lady!!!)
I think that's absolutely hilarious, and demonstrates a totally different
(but equally as valid) viewpoint on Audis. We need more women on this list
- gives us male gear-heads a sense of perspective.
