Re: Audi presence at TWS
The track event this past weekend at TWS was a lot of fun. Rick
Schwallenberg did another great job organizing it...too bad his urquattro
isn't ready to run yet. This time around there were a lot more spins,
one of which ate the back end of a nice '98 Corvette.
Q-lister Jason Palmer impressed the crowds in his A4 1.8tq by getting the
inside TWO wheels off the ground when transitioning into turn 4! My father
was unsuccessful in getting a picture of the car with two wheels in the air,
but did manage to snap a shot of the huge dust cloud creating when Jason
spun off the track later on. ;-)
Luis Marques, the fellow who put together the 4Kq turbo conversion page,
did not need a turbo on the track. He was was absolutely flying in his
little ole' 4Kq. Of course, he was also a maniac on the slalom course,
and took Jason Palmer's 80mph slalom run as a personal challenge. He was
flinging that poor little 4Kq through the cones so fast, we thought he
was going to lose it. Luis is always under control, however, even when
he goes off into the grass trying to get past that last cone. 8-o
Bill Reigelsperger was quite fast in his '90 Coupe quattro. He was
trailing me very closely throughout the entire track, despite giving
up several hundred pounds and a sport suspension to my Coupe GT.
My father and brother came out to Texas in my father's A4 to drive in
the event. My brother was using my car and blew the main transmission
seal out on it after his second run. :-( We pulled the tranny
and replaced the seal, but the car still exhibited the same problems
the next day. This gave me the chance to drive my father's '97 A4 1.8tq
on the track. The A4 was nice to drive, but I think my Coupe GT is a
faster car at TWS, due to the lighter weight and better suspension.
In spite of the car difficulty, I had a great time and am looking forward
to the next event. Thanks go out to those that attended, and to
Rick for organizing it. Hopefully next time Rick will have his urquattro
out on the track so Luis can show him up!
Later,
Eric
