Yes.  Just unscrew in the normal counterclockwise direction.

Yes. Metric thread 12mm dia (I think) x 1.5 pitch (definately).

Make it yourself.  I did, it was fun, I even installed an LED lit
shift pattern w/quattro text!  (My wife thinks it/me VERY amusing.)
