shock confusion
I've spent hours going through the archives and if it's been answered, I
can't find it. BUT: my '85 coupe GT needs shocks/struts. I'll be using the
stock springs to save $ and I really don't want to lose ground clearance. Both
Boge turbo gas and Pro gas are available as well as Koni sports and Bilsteins.
The salesman I spoke with at RD shox says that the Pro gas are sort of
progressive rate; getting stiffer the further they're compressed: while the
turbos are linear. I've heard elsewhere that one model is for sport springs
while the other is for stock. Does anyone really know the difference between
these products besides the $5 (per shock) premium for the pro model? Will I be
replacing either of them in 18 months like the KYB's? (how did I get talked
into those?!!) Or is it really necessary to pay twice as much for the Konis/ Bilsteins?
DRIVING STYLE: San Diego city streets 60% freeways 40%. The city streets are
very rutty, especially after el-nino. There's also a lot of dips, speed bumps,
and steep hills to navigate. I always drive sportingly when the roads and
conditions allow it, but a low, stiff set-up would do more harm than good. I
love watching those superdropped civics scrape speed bumps, curbs, hills...
Besides, BTDT with my old '80 scirocco!
