C-GT window regulator
I replaced the driver's side reg. with the after market unit in my "85 C-GT.
The code # is 855-837-397B: right door is 855-837-398B. This model has a worm
drive instead of a cable assembly and will supposedly last longer. I almost
sent it back too, it looks 180 degrees wrong, but it is the correct part. It
was not at all fun to install; just repeat to self: "I'm saving 300 dollars,
I'm saving 300 dollars". Once you get it in there, focus on making it fit and
glide smoothly; mine didn't attach at the instructions recommended spot, but
not too far off. European Car covered this on their project Audi and following
those instructions were a great help.
Unfortunately, it's about 2 seconds slower than the old unit (and passenger
side door) to raise and lower the glass. If anyone could suggest how to fix
this, let me know! I think GPR can rebuild the old unit for about $150 which
is equal to the new part. This would be a much easier install and would retain
original performance, if you can garage your car while you wait for turn
around. Good luck and repeat the mantra.
