They do last longer! I have replace my "cable" units 5 time's
in 8 years. Thats driver and pass sides combined!

The dealer's charge over $550(parts and labor) for one window!

Ever try to follow the Bentley instructions!

Lubrication!

I was one such person that tried the "rebuild" route!
First, ask how long are they guaranteed for!
Mine was 30 days. It broke 6 months later!
This time it wasn't the cable, but one of the plastic pulleys!
I rebuilt the cable myself. That one lasted about a year and a half.
Then the passenger side went out. Got a used unit, it lasted about 2 years.

At the time I was aware of the "worm gear" regs available in Europe.
You could say I "spear headed" the attempts of parts distributors here in
the US
to carry these items, by constantly asking them to carry these items!

Finally one distributor started carry them, in small quantities, and I
bought the first
two!

These "worm gear" regs have been in my 86 Coupe Gt for a period of over 4
years, and
not a single problem.

I would recommend them to anyone, as "an improvement" in both longevity, and
performance
over the older cable regs.

Your windows being "2 seconds slower" is probably curable with some silicone
in the tracks!

By the why, what kind of people, count how long it takes to roll up a
window? ;^)
