5kcstq Timing Belt Woes

Based on your description I think the previous "mechanic" put everything
back together out of time. My recommendation:

     1) Put the crank back in place using the proper mark on the harmonic
balancer. Check the flywheel end to make sure that mark is also visible.
     2) Turn the camshaft back into proper alignment.
     3) Check the distributor to make sure it is properly aligned.

Then put the belt back on and tighten everything back up. MAKE SURE you
get that big 27mm bolt back to 300 psi on the harmonic balancer. IF YOU DON'T
I can sent you some pictures of what your valves, pistons, and lower t-belt
pulley will look like later. (And they are not pretty to look at, nor
inexpensive to rework/replace.)

     Later.
