RE: UrQ Observations
It's easy. The existing fuel pump power wire runs right by the battery below
the rear seat. All you have to do is wire in a relay with a full time heavy
gauge power input and a heavy gauge wire from the relay to the fuel pump +
terminal. I found it easier to just replace the whole wire to the pump as well
as the ground as they get brittle and corroded. Then you hook the old power
wire that went to the fuel pump to the relay trigger and get one dedicated
ground for this supply. So to summarize, there are 4 wires required to your
relay 1)power from the fuel pump circuit 2) small gauge ground wire connected
to the body somewhere 3) heavy gauge wire directly from the battery (remember
to fuse it first) 4) heavy gauge wire to the fuel pump + terminal. Replace the
ground wire to the fuel pump as well. You need two special round terminals to
hook up to the fuel pump. Call Carlsen and ask Linda to give you two of the
the large terminals that plug into the central terminals (A through F) on the
back of the 1983 UrQ fuse block, they are an exact replacement. Good luck.
Andrew.

Andrew,
After I'm done doing the clutch on my 5Ktq (if it ever stops raining) I
have to re-wire my fuel pump on the '84 Ur-q. Would you care to give me any
ideas. I opened up the fuse box and boy are there alot of wires under that
thing. I hate electrical stuff but I don't trust anyone around here to do it.
Any BTDT's would be great.
Cheers,
Jim
