Should I buy a 5kcst with 165k miles?
Thanks to everyone for their advice earlier about 5kcstq's. Now, I've
found an '86 5kcst (no q) 5-speed with 165k miles. It's for sale from
Rodney Michaelson in Walnut Creek, CA; I'm not sure if he's on the list or
not. He's asking $2500. His ad is included below.
The steering rack has already been replaced, which I believe is a good
thing. I'd rather have a quattro, but I could live without it here in the
Bay Area. (No need for discussion of the quattro's worth--yes, I'd rather
have it too.) But I've been looking for a lower mileage car, and I'm
concerned about that. Any recommendations? Things to check for?
Also, would the cruise control probably be a cheap or expensive fix?
Thanks for your help.

Wallace,
I am just today putting my '86 Audi 5000 CS Turbo 5-speed on the
market. It is in very good condition. Fully loaded and a rare 5-speed
turbo. Paint is factory color Dark Gray (top of line paint job 10 months
ago, not a scratch anywhere . Interior is gray leather with no rips at
all. Power seats, ski bag, climate control, premium stereo 10 speakers,
trip computer, and of course all the other goodies with a CS.
Everything works except cruise control.
Many new parts including front tires. Front disks and pads, Steering
rack, tune up 6 months ago. Oil changed every 3000 miles with castroil
10w-40. Transmission serviced 6 months ago.
Turbo puts out a strong 1.2 bar and hits 1.3 at times!
0-60 in 7.7 seconds. top speed 135mph. At 90mph on I-5 to LA 28.6mpg.
Handles the snow in Tahoe great! In 10 trips up there had to chain up
once.
I'm the second owner. First owner lived in Danville. Car new was $31,000.
Car now has 165,000 miles on it but drives like a car with 50,000.
I'm selling because I found after looking for 2 years a '87 5000 cs turbo
quattro wagon. It has 224,000 miles on it!
The same mechanic who has worked on mine for the last 2 years works on
the one I am buying so I'm not worried by the mileage.
These cars are good for 400,000.
The car looks new from the outside.
the great part. I'm selling it by Sunday morning.
$2,500.00. That is less than the up grades I have put into it!
let me know, I've had two leads so far today.
