The best way to realign a disconnected shifter (disconnected on the
adjustable end) is to manually set the transmission in reverse - the
back up lights will confirm this - then put the shifter in reverse,
usually some precision there because of the "push down" guides.  this
will get you very close, just check the other gears before taking it off
the lift.  Did I forget to mention this is a lot easier on a lift?
