Removing da tow loop (not skating, really..)
Eureka!! I have it!! I found the solution to taking off that damn
tow loop on the RR corner of my 200 so I can install the DaLan hitch.
Was it....a grenade??? Nope.
Plastique? Nah.
Cutting torch? Non.
BFS (Big - saw..)? Nyet.
It's small - it's mighty - it fits in your hand!
(Now, cut that out!)
The answer is - a Dremel Moto-Tool. Really.
The tool comes with a pack which contains about six stone-like
cutting wheels, each quite thin but about 1.5 inches in diameter.
The secret is to use these small cutting wheels and cut the
weld holding the hard metal tow loop to the frame. It took six of
the little cutting wheels to cut through one weld, but it DID
work...took about 20 minutes to cut through the weld and free the
loop. Compared to the 90 minutes I'd already spent
chiseling/hacksawing etc. in vain, it was a snap.
In my case, while removing the tow loop, and the outer side, the
welded portion could remain on the frame rail, while the inner
side of the welded-on loop had to be completely removed. Using the
Moto-Tool, it's easy. Cutting the sheet metal braces which hold the
loop in place is easy by comparison.
