UrQ Collectable

Took a class in "Car Collecting" some years ago. The 2 "laws" of
collectability are:

1 Car _had_ to be immensely popular when new. (can you say Bricklin)
2 Convertibles are (as a general rule) worth almost double their coupe
counterparts.

These laws apply when speaking in terms of _much_ greater value, not just
price holding or slight increase. This subject as some have stated is (as is
art) in the eye, or heart, of the beholder (owner).
The teacher of the class I refferred to had a very impressive collection of
approximately 25 cars, and it was his practice to drive _every_ car at least
once a year. Some he drove once a month. These included a 1913 Rolls Royce, an
Auburn Boattail etc.etc. In his words, "It's only a car, they built it once
and if need be, we can build it again". Most of the _highly_ valuable cars at
Pebble Beach etc are "restored to original condition", with many "rebuilt
original parts". They are made to be driven and enjoyed. If you save it for
the future, who's future are you saving it for? The person you save it for may
treat it badly, and care not a farthing for all your sacrifice.
Don't marry a beautiful woman and put her in a glass case. I treat my cars as
I do my wife, with care, consideration, and respect. So far it has worked very
well in both cases. FWIW, my wife gets more beautiful and valuable every day.
