Good-bye to an old friend

Well, yesterday when I put a battery in my old 1978 Audi Fox to move it out
of the way on the driveway, I came to the realization that I'm not likely to
be able to get it running to either get rid of it or give it to a brother in
law. Where it was running last time I started it a couple months back, I
knew it was teetering on the edge. Yesterday, the fuel pump wouldn't spin
... and I noticed a few drops under the fuel accumulator. I purchased the
car new ... AAMOF this is the only car I've actually bought new; but since
its "replacement" (a 1985 4kSQ) is up and in service I really should bid
ACHTZIG I adieu ...

Overall, realistically speaking, the car isn't worth much, if anything, but
it does have a couple of bits that might be of use to someone. When I
installed the 5-speed, I found an '86 Audi 4kS FWD tranny from a car that
was totalled with less than 20K miles which I installed (the car was
totalled from a rear collision, and I had considered getting the engine as
well, but it had no electronics). I can't imagine that the tranny has 20K
miles on it even today ... but I don't know for a fact. The car also had a
very recent clutch replacement ... recent in terms of miles that is. The
other item of note is that the rear window (heated) was replaced within the
past year as well. Other than that I don't know how much there is that can
be used ... it has always been a California car and has never been involved
in an accident ... other than some surface rust on the roof there is no rust
on the car.

The car is located in San Jose, California (surprise) ... and would be very
expensive to register in California even if someone wanted to resurrect it
into a runner. If there is anyone out there that has an interest, drop me a
line via direct e-mail ...
