LIT: '98 S4 / '99 VW Pst (wasPassat Syncro Info)

George (and now List et al), 

First off I hope you didn't take my email as an accusation, this post should indicate just how difficult it is to get matching facts out of the dealers (not necesarily their fault either I'm now thinking).

(1)  I hit the local dealer with George's info on new brochures to see what I could get.  Pretty much no response, except this time he definitely indicated syncro presence as a '99 model. (no news here).  I further indicated how interested I was in the new line-ups from both Audi and VW, but explained that if syncro passat GLX (~$30k) were available it would be really tough (nay impossible) for me to shell out $38k for the A4 avt when they're similar in many ways (again, I WOULD prefer the Audi but not enough difference).  To truly indicate interest, I actually put down a "deposit" to put my name on the (BS) list.

(2)  I further explained that if Audi actually offered an avant with enough performance to justify the cost, then pricing would become less of an issue.  

I then received two iota of info from sales guy.  First, he said that the syncro "probably" will come first with the GLX wagon (this mirrors what most rumours are) and that the S4 avant appearance is looking more definite.  To prove this, he whipped out the prima donna's actual brochure and I now have it in my possession!!!  

However, the S4 LIT is only an estimate of the S4 North America as it is nur auf Deutsch.  I have forgotten almost all of my formerly minimal understanding of German (as Phil P. so accurately points out) and will supply a very, very general idea of the contents soon.  I would consider typing most of it up for translation, but might just be easier to post the actual pages online, not to mention have the effect of perhaps ticking off AoA (again, not necessarily a bad thing).  Anyone notice how many "rights reserved" R's there are beside quattro at audi.com?  You have to be kidding me!

Really curious about George's brochure.  The one I just picked up indicates GLX (finally), but no word on syncro.

S4 is ~82k DM.  Ouch.  (Brochure includes all the pricing for the options and features.  NEVER see this type of breakdown on US lit).

At least this is what the book  tells me. My dealer (Autohaus Lancaster in
PA) is VERY good at getting in the latest sales literature, if you cannot
wait and think my 1% of error is too much, check out the dub dealer, but I
am pretty sure I am correct.
