Subject: squeekyness (5k noise at idle)

One thing I notice about my old 5k and my new 200q is they both "squeek"
when running. It's not a belt noise, I know that...I used to take it as a
signal from my 5k that it was getting low on oil, and after some fresh
oil, the noise would go away.
Frustrating as ever. I like engines that don't make weird noises when
idling...
My chief suspect is the PS pump...?

I would tend to agree that the noise is related to the PS pump; however, it
could be several things: bearing for the pully going bad, worn belt, belt too
loose (or too tight = $$$), or a problem with the pump.
I don't know the belt layout by heart; I think there are separate belts for
the PS and the alternator. You could buy a replacement belt, cut off the old
PS belt, and start the car to see if your noise is gone. If so, shut down the
car, put on the new belt, and tighten the belt to spec. Then restart and see
if your noise returns. If so, could be the pump or bearing. Oh, don't drive
the car with the PS belt removed; the PS pump is also the pump for the brake
hydraulic assist; wouldn't want to drive without that.
