Thanks to all who responded!  Some good points:

Many listers noted that some insurance companies will pay for glass
replacement or repair.  I think that I'm going to opt for repair so that
I don't have a leaky windshield for the rest of the life of the car.  I
won't involve the insurance co until I see how much it will cost (!). 
I'll try to start calling around tomorrow.

And thanks to all who said it could be repaired--I thought they could
only do that with bulls eyes!  Gonna look into it, the crack grew a
little bit today.
