Well, the pros install that thing when the glass and the gasket is still out of
the car. Then they install the window with the trim piece already in place.
I realize that this is not much of a help for you, but this the way it is
usually done.
I had moderate luck with using KY jelly, but my plastic trim was already in
pieces, broken at the corners. I only learned about the proper order of
installation when I already had my window in.
