The common failure is a cracked plastic socket swivel joint.  
Audi has a TSB on this...no repair possible except to replace it.  
These were unchanged for a few years, except there are color variations.
So try a salvage yard, but best price will >not< be at a place that
specializes in German cars.
If you have access to a salvage yard that let's you pull parts you can
likely get one for $5.
