Re: then's the breaks
Mr. Eaton, I am disappointed [albeit only slightly:)]. Have you no
narrow twisty backroads where you drive that RS2??
The brakes on my wagon are stock, except for pads, which are cool
carbons. The pad changed helped markedly, but, these brakes are still
nowhere near what I would call suitable for "spirited" driving. No,
the car has never been on the track [at least not while I have owned
it].
Panic stops are few, in my experience. Thankfully, I have never
required a 70-0 stop. More usual is from ? - near speed limit when
the V1 screams. But, on twisty narrow roads here and there, brake
fade has become a real deal. There is one in particular that has
15-20 very sharp turns in about 8 miles. By the end of this run, I
have never objectively measured brake distance, but it is dramatically
decreased. The brake system is in top condition, at all times.
Problem is, imfo, the brakes on the car just are not enough for this
type of driving. Kinda like the headlights, window switches, door
handles, racks, etc., that are on these great cars but would be better
off in the trash.
