HELP! I made a big bobo
<Kinda long, important stuff near the end>
QList-
Saturday was a day I would love to redo. It was a sunny, beautiful day
in Boston, but I decided rather that going for a ride, to work on the
bikes and the car, pamper them if you will.
First a trip to the parts store to get some of this and that. New
sponge, leather cleaner/conditioner, new chamois, etc. First, I replaced
the trailer light hookup on the 5K, then I replaced the wipers. I then
moved on to the bikes, cleaning and lubing the chains on both bikes. I
washed and dried the F2, moved it into the garage, washed and dried the
XX, moved it to the bottom of the driveway. Next the car.
The car was backed into the driveway with both front doors open, so I
could listen to the radio. I get in and start it up, notice the
passanger door is still open, reach over to close it, and then it
happened.
<slow motion>
My foot slips off the brake, and the car starts to roll backwards. I
hit what I think is the brake, and hit the gas. The passanger door hit
the side wall of the driveway and is bent back on itself in a horrid
sound of metal crunching.
</slow motion>
I stop the car and get out, only then do I notice that both bikes are
down. The car had run into the Givi rack on the XX (Givi is motocycle
hard luggage), denting the trunk on the car. The XX had rolled forward,
off the centerstand, and into the F2. The XX hit the exhaust of the F2,
gouging the front fairing and cracking it in one place. The exhaust of
the F2 was bent in. When the F2 fell, it crached the left rear body
panel. I picked up the bikes and returned to the car.
It's fucked. Pardon my french. The door got bent all the way back on
itself, bening the front fender. It took me about 30 minutes just to
get it sort of closed (it won't latch.) What a day. I cleaned up
everythnig, and moved the car into the garage, and cleaned up the bikes
as best I could.
Now my delema. What to do. Does anyone have a passanger front door
and fender for an '87 5kcstq, I need the door panels as well. Or any
good suggestions where to start looking? If they are burgandy, that
would be a bounus! I'm thinking I'd like to get the parts, try and do as
much of it as I can, then take it to a body shop for the finishing
touches. Which brings me to my next question, can anyong recommend a
good body shop in the metro Boston area? This will not be covered by
insurance and will be comming out of my pocket and, while I want a good
job done, it does not need to be showroom, I want to try and keep the
cost down.
I'm going to hit the phone tomorrow, and see if I can locate any parts,
but any help I can get from the list would be greatly appriciated.
TIA,
