After my fiasco Saturday (see previous post), I woke up with a hangover
Sunday and grabbed the paper, and flipped to the auto section. Two '91
200's listed, one a sedan, one a wagon. I go and look at both.

The sedan. Body is silver and in great shape. Interiaor has the blue
cloth seats, and Bose sound system. Parking brake sticks, auto check
was a little flakey, but overall a good car. What worried me: The rear
diff would not lock, and it would only hit 1.3 bar boost. What should
these cars see for boost? I was under the impression they hit about 1.8
bar. Does the lack of boost and the fact the diff wount lock warrent
passing up this car, or could they be simple fixes? The car has 138k
miles, and the guy is asking $8500.

The wagon. Burgandy. Body looked good, but didn't care for the tan
interior. Delta radio (sucked), but has a blau cd changer. No cover
for the back cargo area, the passanger side mirror didn't work, and the
backseat cig lighter is stuck in and on. This car pulled 1.5 bar boost.
58K miles, guy is asking $13.5k.

My guess is that the sedan is not a '91 200q. Cloth seats (to my knowledge)
were not available; this is probably a '90 200q. Easy check: open hood and
look at the engine; the '91 200q has a totally different looking engine than
the earlier cars (like your 5k).

That said, the boost guage in the display is notoriously inaccurate. there
are several problems that can make the computer stop controlling boost,
limiting the boost to what the spring in the waste gate gives you (about 1.3
or 1.4???).

See my page and Scott Mockry's page for info on these cars

Also: if you are interested in this (or any) car, I'd strongly recommend
getting a mechanic who knows audi's to review it for you. Run the error codes
(simple jumper wire and LED to make them display) and that might locate your
low boost problems, otherwise you may have a leak in the "Michelin man" hose
from the turbo to intercooler.

Cigarette lighter is stuck on in the rear because the lockout for the rear
windows is on; the rear window switches won't work either I'd bet. Push the
lockout (driver's door, wide button) and the lighter will pop out. Otherwise,
probably blown fuse.

If you are serious about purchase, there are several '91 200q owners in the
general boston area who can possibly assist with your purchase.
