Audi Service, continued
As you may recall, I was extremely peeved--and
figured that Carlsen had neglected to fill the oil at
the 7500 mile change; I had to add two quarts after
driving only 2400 miles after the oil change.
So, I finally called Carlsen to see what they would
say; I tried to trap the service manager by saying:
"How bad is it if your '98 Audi A4 has been running
two quarts low"
His response "Not a problem; the A4 typically burns
about a quart per 800 to 1500 miles. It isn't a
problem at all".
After he said this, I explained that my car had used
2 quarts in 2400 miles and he reiterated that this is
not abnormal for the A4 quatt.
I guess I am relieved that he started off explaining
Audi oil consumption patterns--instead of trying to
cover his ass. FYI, he said they use ARCO 10W-40 oil,
non-synthetic. Arco..imagine that.
Regardless, it really sucks when you can't trust your
dealer's service; I would much rather go back to the
independent that I trust (www.euroquattro.com), but
independents don't get reimbursed by Audi USA.
Here is one extra little "horror story" from a friend
of mine who also has an A4:
"Well, Audi service is living up to my expectations as
well. Sonnen Porsche Audi (Marin) where I bought the
car, couldn't find a rattle in three attempts.
Negherbon (Oakland) needed two days to do my 7500
service, then lied to me about rotating the tires.
(They didn't - I had marked them prior)"
