The S2 came in '91 (while the 20v UrQ was still in production).
Autocar & Motor tested the UrQ and S2 back-to-back in October '90.
Is there a difference between a 91 and later
>years?
Yes. In '93, there was more power (230 vs 220 hp) and a six-speed 'box.
What are the price ranges?
Few of them around, but early ones are usually in the $20-30k range here if
you can find one. There was one for sale recently for $22k(?) that was
Abt-tuned to 300hp. I saw one for $15k some time ago, but it sounded like a
dubious car. Used-car prices for relatively young cars are quite high here
because of our new-car tax (40%). Germany is a better bet for finding one.
20v UrQs (there are four in this country, only one of which is an original
Dutch-market car) go for the same amount, BTW.
What is the best year?
They were made until '96, with not much improvements for the later cars.
I'm not sure which ones are the best, but there were some rumours about
weak 6-speed transmissions on the list some time ago, if I recall correctly.
There's an ownership article in the Jan/Feb issue of 'Audi Driver' magazine
from the UK, but it gives no insights as to which one to go for. It just
says that the brakes are the weakest area of the S2 and best upgraded.
