OK, but the laser detection can't hurt. I got blasted at nearly point
blank at night one time on the Ohio Turnpike. I was way over the speed
limit, nailed the brakes on my Bonneville rent-a-heap (scary) and I was not
pulled over. Perhaps he needed to adjust his aim and I had a little time?
Also was following two guys in Golden, CO. when they got zapped. I had
plenty of warning behind them and got slowed down. A radar detector won't
save you from "Instant On" either, but I think in either case you may be
able to take advantage of the information available when you have a good
detector.
