To my knowledge he loss of AM and FM is normal for antenna connected units (at
least for aftermarket ones). I think this is because the unit shuts down the
signal from the antenna (unless you have a really strong signal nearby at that
frequency) and then pumps the CD signal into the head unit. So even if you are
on AM it is flooding the unit with signals and blocking the AM signals.

I don't know anything else about the Audi 6 disc units though. On other units
you have to set the FM to 88.3 and hit the play on the CD controller.
