Re: Shayne AVERAGED 108 mph?!
108? Pretty good.
However, I did from Heidleburg to between Hamburg and Bremen in 3 1/2
hrs. once. That's around 400 miles. 114 mph average. Which is pretty
good considering that my 2.0l Opel Omega had a top speed of 120 (130 on
a downslope.) I pretty much was able to stay at speed because there was
*no* traffic at all. If I had had a larger Omega (when I bought mine in
1989, I don't think they had the 6 cyl. yet, which I couldn't have
afforded anyway!)), or a *real* fast car, I could have averaged much
higher. Of course, not nearly as impressive considering the lack of
speed limits much of the way.
I made the same trip on the last weekend of summer in 12 hours! Nothing
but headlights as far as you could see from Frankfurt to Hannover. At
60mph, we were crawling. Many times were were just creeping.
Having put 70,000 miles on the autobahn, many of those miles at 120, it
sure is hard to drive here.
