88 90 radio codes

Friends,

The battery died on my wife's 88 90q; in replacement, the radio has
entered "SAF" mode, meaning that it must think that it was stolen. 
That, or my two year old did something so mean to it that it's afraid.

How do I go about getting the code for it?  Do I have to call Audi where
they'll have some registry by VIN, or is it written underneath the
seat?  That's a joke.  Ha!
