glovebox removal
I have seen lots of posts detailing the repair of the recirc flap spring on
the a/c. I don't remember seeing any on how to remove the glovebox to
access this area so having just done this on my '91 200tq I thought I would
detail it for anyone interested. All '89 to '91 model 100 and 200 should be
the same and since Audi designs seem pretty evolutionary may also apply to
other models as well.
For tools you only need a 4mm allen wrench.
The glove box is held on by five fasteners, plus one to hold the dash side
panel.
1. Look below and in front of the box and find one fastener that attaches
to the grill piece, remove.
2. On the right side margin of the box opening there is a hole, this holds
the fastener that attaches the dash side panel, remove.
3. Open box door look on the top of the compartment, right inside the
opening, you will find three holes. If you stick your wrench thru the outer
two and wiggle it around you will find the screw head, loosen appx. two
turns. There is no fastener in the middle hole.
4. Also on the top of the compartment, a little farther forward you will
find two fasteners that clamp a little tab loosen these appx. two turns
also.
Now support the box, as it will be sagging, and swivel the two little tabs
so they are free. Now slide the box to the right a little and it should
come free, you might have to wiggle the dash side panel also as it comes
off with the box. The glovebox light connector is attached to the top of
the box so be careful until it is disconnected.
Installation is pretty straight forward, just slide the box to the left, on
the rearmost fasteners, then reach in and swivel the two little tabs so
they engage. I did this part before putting the side panel on, then slid
the panel up and into place and put in the fastener.
I hope this info helps someone and I only wish the left side panel, to
access the relay panel, came off so easily.
