Re: More on the lambda

Thanks for the quotes Orin:

After reading that, I would concur that 1.00 seems the target, and EGT
monitored to prevent too much heat at the EM. I'm curious as to the 'fix'
audi is contemplating regarding the cracking of EM's in this car. Could this
EGT thing be a little too late in the game? My thinking is that in the length
of time EGT takes to react, the 'damage' incurred has already passed. On
multiple turbo runs (like at the track) I suppose this could be effective.
But a lot of heat soaking happens in a turbo application, so a couple of short
bursts of turbo followed by a few moderate ones, could go the wrong way here.

A very interesting discussion. I'm still a huge EGT skeptic. It's a great
tool for knowing when to shut your car down without baking the turbo, and
'maybe' long term effectiveness of fuel mixtures. For Lambda values, it's
hardly an effective weapon, in fact, I would think some other temp sensors
activated that are already in the Lambda loop, could do a better job. But
maybe not.

Regardless, the PROBLEM remains O2's and WOT vs. Lambda (for any value of L).
The wide range O2 would easily replace the EGT sensors (like within a model
year).
Here's to hoping it happens soon. We ALL could benefit from this better
mousetrap.
