results with after run fan (thanks)
thanks to all who responded to help me. there were a variety of
responses, so i'm replying to the list just to share what i found. on
my 865kcst 5spd, the switch was located at the front/left/top area of
the block where the top radiator hose inserts. it was indeed a two
blade switch. disconnecting the wires while the after run fan was on
did stop the fan. normal fan function was kept though with engine
running (fan comes on with a.c., fan intermittently comes on with engine
temp increases, etc.). i will probably replace the switch at some later
date unless i'm swayed either to 1)replace immediately because it is
that crucial to have after run function, or 2)not worry about it because
at this point it is not a life or death situation. again, i don't mean
to insult the intelligence of some list members by posting something
which to some may seem like "yeah, i've found that pressing in the
clutch pedal when i shift makes for a smoother shift." i'm only
responding because it seemed like a few of the responses i received said
some different things. even the audi mechanic i had look at this in
boston went to the wrong switch! thanks again,
dan
