Used to be that a bank draft in UK pounds cost $10 at a local bank.
I don't know what they charge now.

It is interesting to note that when I worked in London, travel cash
advances were given out in American Express travellers checks
in US$ rather than UK pounds... this for travel withing Europe.
They were always readily convertable into local currency.
