RE: Clutch question A4 - K&N info too

Hi, just resubscribed after long time away. Still see many of the old faces
here :) (special hi to Dan Simoes, Phil Payne, Avi, Fringe, Dave Eaton,
Jeffrey Goggin, Unka Bart, Tom Nas etc)

I have a worry re my clutch.

A4 1.8Tq with MTM 187hp upgrade, Remus exhaust. Has done 48000kms (29000m)
with small amount of track laps.

Fitted K&N panel filter last night and went testing this morning.
Impression: car defintely feels smoother - started 1st time with no fall
off of revs as it has been doing lately and feels smoother on road (very
subjective of course). No measureable drop in 100-130kph in third time but
not really expecting this as 5-10hp prob not measurable without v accurate
timers.

Anyway - on to my question:

I abandoned 0-100kph test as first attempt (3500rpm and quick clutch out)
resulted in clutch slip and smell of burning clutch :( (cold clammy
feeling and oh-sh** all at same time)

Does this mean that my clutch is stuffed and needs service or just that's
its getting on and will be fine for some time yet? It seems fine afterwards
with spirited but less severe treatment.

BTW - the K&N filter was #33-2675 as _finally_ listed in latest K&N
catalogue for 96 and 97 2.8 A4. Fitting was a breeze and seemed to slot into
the airbox just right. They still don't list one for 1.8T but my info is
that the airbox is the same.

TIA
