sunroof liner
The headliner panel for the tilt-up part of the sunroof has come detached
(in my '91 200q). This panel is the narrow one towards the rear; it's the
part which lifts up with the tilting roof. It appears that it originally
was glued to the sliding roof with something like contact cement or similar
adhesive.
I want to reattach it, and my main concern is for it line up properly with
the opening in the roof. When the sunroof is tilted up, it's possible to
completely remove this panel. So, my plan is
(a) to clean off as much of the old cement from both surfaces as possible,
(b) apply fresh adhesive (I think I'll use a 3M weatherstrip adhesive) to
as much of both surfaces as possible, and
(c) carefully replace the panel and center it in the opening (it overlaps
the opening and will stay in place. Then,
(d) I will slowly lower (i.e., untilt) the roof--bringing it into contact
with the panel. This, I hope, will ensure that the panel keeps properly
centered in the roof opening.
Anything I've missed? Any BTDTs to share?
Thanks
Phil
