Re: sunroof liner
Phil:
Funny, the headliner on the sunroof is my Saturday project too! But mine is
for the second time.
When I replaced the liner like you're planning on doing, I used a different,
generic spray adhesive I brought from the auto parts store -- Permatex All
Purpose Spray Adhesive. DON'T USE THIS! It lasted a few months and now the
liner is on my workbench!
I found a "3M Super Trim Adhesive", p/n: 08091, but I didn't notice until I
got home that it says its for Heavyweight headliners. It recommends a
different adhesive: p/n: 08080, "3M General Trim Adhesive" for lightweight
"materials including adequately supported flexible vinyls, foams, insulation,
and fabrics." I've decided to find the lightweight spray.
Also, I didn't clean the old, dried up adhesive off the metal the first time.
I will now. 3M has a product called: Adhesive, Tar & Wax Remover, p/n: 03607
that looks helpful.
Make sure the headliner piece doesn't move or shift after you've applied the
adhesive and positioned it in place. I'd also suggest some sort of support
from underneath, to prop up the center portion of the piece and keep it in
contact with the metal while it is drying.
Good Luck!
