Spark Plug gap: Verdict
Remember how I posted that I (tried to) set the gap on the F6DTC plugs
for my 100S with the V-6 (to the specs in the Bentley manual), and that
afterward, it seemed to run sluggish? (Anyone else so in "tune" with
their car that they can tell that it just isn't running right... or that
it is low on tire pressure? Strange phenomenon, eh?).
Being the perfectionist and fanatic that I am, I decided to install
another set to see if there was a difference (and make sure it wasn't my
imagination).
Sure enough, the difference was immediately noticeable!! Quicker
throttle response, better acceleration, and better gas mileage.
BTW, my gas mileage had dropped considerably. I usually get about 25+
mpg, but the two fill-ups with the first (i.e. owner-gapped) set of
plugs showed 19 and 22 mpg!! Yikes!! At least now I know that it wasn't
my imagination!!
So, there you have it... real world testimony... a good BTDT regarding
changing the spark plug gap on the triple electrodes... DON'T DO IT!!
Just take them out of the box, and install them as is.
Hope this helps.
