Hi Brooks;
The aerofoil "wing" loads the wiper against the windshield and keeps it
on the glass at high speed.
I was irritated at the way the washer jets hit the aerofoil at first,
but you can actually use this to improve windshield washing. With the right
timing, the washer jet deflecting off the aerofoil sprays over the entire
driver's side glass surface and gives a better wash job than the direct jet
alone. Works great! Another Audi innovation!
