Brooks;
What you probably saw was the engine check light. When this comes on, it
usually means that a fault code has been set in the ECU. Read out your codes
to see what the fault is. When toubleshooting engine problems, reading out
the codes can save a lot of guesswork.
The Bentley describes the code reading procedure and lists the meaning
of the codes. Since you still have an engine check light ( they were removed
and/or not factory installed beginning around '89), the Bentley procedure
using the 10A fuse in the fuel pump relay may work in your car. If not,
Scott has an excellent description of how to obtain and read the trouble
codes from the later (and earlier) model cars on his website at
www.teleport.com/~scottmo/ecuf.hlml . Scott's description is a lot easier to
understand than the Bentley's!
