Is it possible to put a nitrous system on your car? Sure. Would I do
150hp? Uh, no. That's way too much for a stock, relatively small
displacement engine. You could do a 50hp shot fairly easily and safely,
however.
Nitrous, when done correctly, is a very cheap bang-for-the-buck shot of
horsepower. It often gets a bad rap because it's so easy to overdo it and
send your engine to the graveyard. But a conservative install, done by an
experienced shop, can produce very gratifying results. The hard part is to
match the shot of nitrous with the right amount of extra gasoline so the
engine doesn't go too rich (bad) or lean (even worse). The newer
progressive controllers allow the nitrous to 'stage in' rather than coming
on all at once, providing a smoother 'shot' and less stress on other
components.
I say again - finding a shop that knows what they are doing is the key.
You can do it yourself if you prefer, but there are lots of tips and tricks
that you might learn only by making a fatal mistake....BTDT...it's up to
you!.............SLM
