'86 4000CSq Air filter replacement

How can I easily replace the air filter in my 1986 4kcsq?
I had an '87 Jetta and thought it was bad. After looking
at the Audi the Jetta must have been the improved design.

I put in a search through the archives but found people
putting holes into airboxes. I don't need that kind of info
(yet?), just on how to easily replace the stock air filter.
