Re: appropriate replacement car
To be honest, it sounds like you're not a true Audi fan. To be
fair, you got one of the highest maintenance Audis ever, so if
you went with something simpler like a '91 90 you may be happier.
Still, a Subaru wouldn't be such a bad choice. German
engineering has its many facets, but is still excellent for the
most part. Heck, trains in the US aren't even allowed to go over
79 MPH, but I digress. The reason I chose an Audi quattro over a
Subaru was simply because it was more exotic and stylish for the
money. I admit I was burned, because I got the first year of
5000 that had turbo and quattro ('86). For it's credit, though,
it had over 170k miles when I bought it, and I made it all the
way to the Grand Canyon from Oregon and back with no problems.
And had I gotten an alarm and taken it to an Audi specialist for
service, I would have avoided most problems (other than the
power windows which are doomed to failure). True Audi fans that
are crazy enough to buy 2 or more of these glorious machines
have some irrational reasons for it usually. I love driving a
European AWD sports sedan because it's my style. The paragraph
at the top of http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/3229/
is an extreme example of the emotions behind owning an Audi;
not everyone takes it that far.
