I looked at this URL, and the page is the same as one I read last week. It
does not address in any detail products like Prolong. Until I see an article
that specifically debunks Prolong and/or MiliTec-1, I will continue using
Prolong.
A few listers have mused that if additives were worth anything, then the oil
companies would be making them and/or adding them to their oil products.
Well boys and girls, Mobile has BTDT. Before thet started marketing their
(what was at that time a) blend of dino and synthetic(Blueprinted) oils,
they were selling guarts of oil with GRAPHITE in it. I used this for a while
in my first 100LS, but quit for one simple reason: how in the Hell do you tell
if the oil is dirty? :-)
My 86 5kcstq was most likely kept on dino by its three previous owners. Last
fall, I witched first to Castrol Syntech. Then to Mobile 1 this spring, then
added ProLong on the nxt change. Since then, my lifter noise has completely
disappeared.
'Course, right now, the turbo's not feeling well, but I don't think Prolong
was implcated, or could have prevented me from melting down the
bearing. Those solid-style bearings just can't take the abuse...
Just my opinion of questionable worth... -doug q
