K26 Turbi Questions
Good Morning, QListers!
I have a few questions about turbos I hope someone can answer.
First, I have a replacement (Thanks to all who offerred them).
Comparing the replacement to the one on my car, it appears the one
on my car was purchased as a new or remanufactured replacement. While
the replacement just purchased has a blue tag and the original Audi
part number as shown on the fiche (035.145.703L), the one on the car
has a red tag and instead of an Audi part number has:
7 13 93 28 00
Which looks like it was built/rebuilt 13 July 1993. What
appears to be the KKK part number (Ausf. Nr.) on the blue tag
is 5326 970 6411, while red tag is 5326 970 6411D. The number
above (Atl. Nr.) is 21977 on red tag, and 86 006 2392 on blue
tag.
Any comments about the differences in these two turbos? I have
no doubt that the blue tag one will work fine, as it appears to
be the exact original that this car once had.
Question 2:
This "new" unit (I'll call it blue tag from now on) is a bit
dirty on the outside (compared to red tag), and I'd like to
clean it up. I assume I need to be careful about getting
debris inside the scrolls. After I clean the outside, though,
would it be ok to clean the inside of the scrolls? What I would
intend to do would be to flush the cold side with Castrol's
biodegradeable purple stuff called SuperClean, followed by water,
allowed to dry, and then spray some BG HCF inside. On the hot
side, I thought I'd spray carb cleaner, allow to dry, then spray
some BG HCF in there, too. When HCF dries, it leaves a nice film
which protects metal from corrosion, and rubber from drying and
cracking. Am I correct in assuming that there are seals inside
the the turbo that are either rubber or neoprene?
Question 3:
What do listers use as a substitute for Audi G 000 500, High
melting point grease?
I'd appreciate any and all comments. Thanks once again in advance!
