update: urq questions
Hi all,
Well, I hope all the Audi Gurus are reading this and not simply being
voyeurs! ( and the Audi Gods are smiling down upon us all )
Anyway, I tested my '83 tqc further in depth tonight ( problems under high
boost/rpm). I found the frequency valve to be operating within specs, the
timing specs to be right on except I was not able to test timing under boost
conditions (no radiator cap tester). The fuel system pressures checked out
O.k. as well (also road tested).
Problems found:
1. when testing the frequency valve, it did not fluctuate from 25-65% it
simply stayed right at 50%. Adjusting the mixture had little affect upon it.
(O2 sensor new and checks out fine)
- the mixture and valve and CO are all within specs though.
2. When testing the frequency valve when tipping the WOT switch to on with
the idle switch still connected, the frequency rate jumped to 77% it should
have stayed at 50% +/- 6%. The test with the idle switch disconnected did
the same which is correct.
- the wiring and switches are testing just fine.
Still looking for vacuum leaks...I found a very slight leak at the top of
the intake manifold using propane. The HC level jumped from 63 to 130. Would
this small of a leak cause the boost pressure to drop off completely???
I guess I am planning to replace the intake manifold gaskett anyway. Can
anyone tell me how much of a PITA this is? And/or any suggestions as to
things to do while I have it off. BTW I am a little short in the pocket book
this month (O.K. this quarter) and I would like to have it ceramic coated...
Also, The suggestions people made about checking the turbo... I looked at
the intake side and the blades are in good shape and side play is
non-existent. I guess I do not feel like yanking the turbo just yet to
inspect the exhaust side.
Please, let me know if you have any suggestions/insight.
Thanks,
Scott
